Tails from Home -- Maddie

Hello NLGA Dog Blog Readers,

Today we hear from Maddie's family.  Enjoy.

I first meet Maddie on a hot summer day. Northern Lights was holding their annual greyhound picnic and I had recently contacted them about getting a grey of my own. I went to the picnic, excited to meet my future best friend. I spotted Maddie from across the park, wearing a satin pink coat with the words ‘Adopt Me’ on it. I could tell she was shy, nervous and a sweetheart. They always told me ‘You don’t pick the dog, the dog will pick you’. Maddie eventually spent the later half of the afternoon laying by my side, cooling down with me in the shade. It was love.

Maddie is the sweetest lady I know. Like most greys, she spends the majority of her day relaxing:

…mixed in with the occasional play session:

Maddie was quite shy when we first brought her home. She has gotten much better over the last year and a half. Loud noises startle her the most, although she has been known to jump at a Kleenex falling to the floor as well. We have been sure to give her love, encouragement and daily snuggles.

Our grey girl is a great apartment dog. She loves her daily walks in the neighborhood and the doggie area outside out building. Maddie has made lots of new friends in the building- dog and cats!

Her true love is being outdoors. She goes NUTS for water. When we go on walks around the neighborhood, Maddie will seek out any puddle she can splash in. She loves any form of water (except a bath!!).

This is her last summer at Battlecreek dog park- her favorite place to visit! She runs up the trails in excitement, then realizes mom and dad are a ways back and races back to her ‘pack’.  Mads always wants to be a part of the pack!

We are in LOVE with our grey girl!!! Even her endearing quirks, like only eating her food a kibble at a time, having to poop at the farthest possible spot in the yard and her fear of the bathroom, make us love her more. She greets up when we wake up, runs up to us when we get home and snuggles us to sleep. As much as we have taught her about retired life, she has taught us how to love unconditionally. We definitely see a grey brother or sister in her future!

Thank you so much for sharing Maddie's 'tails' with us!  And, if a grey brother or sister is in her future, we cannot wait to hear about their 'tails' either!

Please consider helping us finish out our 30 days of 'tails from home' for adopt-a-greyhound month!  We are still in need of six more 'tails'!  We would love to hear from you!  nlgahounds@gmail.com
