Follow A Hound to Retirement -- Five New Greyhounds!

Hello NLGA Dog Blog Readers!

There are five new NLGA greyhounds this morning...Blazin, Cherry, Dewitt, Bobby, and Brandon!  2 girls and 3 boys!

It was a VERY long day+ for them!  They left Florida around 2 pm on Friday evening and were welcomed to NLGA at a little after midnight this morning!

In southeast WI before heading to WI Dells to meet
the NLGA volunteers!

Yes ... you read that correctly ... that's 34 hours of travel!

A sneak peak at Blazin

Needless to say, it was also a late night for our NLGA volunteers!  Therefore, pictures and stories of the trip will be coming later today!

Max can hardly contain his pure excitement to hear all about the haul and five new NLGA hounds!

He will have to wait just like the rest of us!  We will update this post ... so check back here later today!

And ... here is the trip update!!

We left the Cities at 1:30 so we would be to the Dells by 6 to pick up our new dogs from Florida. You are right, it does not take that long to drive to the Dells, but we had orders to stop in Tomah at the Humbird Cheese store to pick up cheese. And do you know you can exit just about anywhere and find a cheese shop?!?!? Who knew.....

Then the schedule got all changed and the dogs would not be to the Dells until 9 or 9:30.  Being the ever resourceful volunteers we are, we killed a couple hours eating and perusing a couple gift shops and then decided to continue east (south) to meet up with GPA-WI group who were assisting with the haul.  We finally met up with the newest NGLA hounds at 8:15 in DeForest, WI!

A group photo was taken before leaving Wisconsin!

Before leaving Wisconsin, everyone stretched their legs!  Found some perfect spots and then were ready for the final leg of the trip to Minnesota!

Let's meet the five newest NLGA hounds, shall we!

Sweet little Blazin (2.5 years old) was ready to finish up her last leg of her journey from Florida!  She went from one vehicle and directly into the next!

Meet Blazin (Astar Blazin Gal)

Blazin is ready to go!

Blazin says, "Let me in already!"
Cherry (4 year old) is a very nice little girl.  This happy girl had a successful racing career and is now looking forward to trying out retirement!

Flashy Gael (Cherry), as a pro-athlete, ran 138 races!

Here is Flashy Gael (Cherry) is full stride!  Awesome!

Cherry is now ready to start retirement
and find her forever home!

Brandon (2 years old) lives up to his name as a count, he is a taller boy and stands regal.  I had a feeling we would have a little trouble with the hound who needed to be in the driver's seat.  And, sure enough, Brandon tried a couple times to take control of the wheel!

Brandon's (Count Brandon) behind the wheel!
Brandon knows the way to retirement!

Bobby (3.5 years old) is one tall and handsome dude!  Bobby ran 113 races during his pro athlete days!

Bobby (Juicebox Bobby) lookin' good!

Bobby getting ready to go!

Dewitt (4 years old) is a good looking boy!  Dewitt enjoyed running his 97 races and is now looking forward to finding his forever home and enjoying retirement!

Dewitt (Bob's DeWitt)

The trip really went well!  Once on the road our five newest greyhounds slept most of the way.  Well, except Bobby ... who would come and look out the front windows when we drove through areas that had a lot of light!  The only time that Bobby, Brandon, Blazin got up other than that was when we went to open the bag of licorice!  It apparently smelled great to these three who were trying as they attempted (unsuccessfully!) to get a late night snack!

We arrived at NLGA around 12:45 am!  Donna and Dr. Barr were waiting to meet us there!  Blazin, Cherry, Bobby, Brandon, and Dewitt got a chance to stretch their legs again, run around a little, find a few perfect spots, drink some water, and generally check out the area.   They then headed into the clinic for some food and a good night rest to get ready to start the next step in there journey of retirement!

Getting ready for a midnight snack and good night of rest!

Preparing midnight snacks!

Thank you so much for all those that helped in getting these five new greyhounds to NLGA!  Especially GPA-Orlando, GPA-Wisconsin, and our NLGA volunteers (Kim, Mary, Donna, and Dr. Barr) who were involved with the transportation and arrival of our newest greyhounds!  What a LONG day!

If you are interested in fostering or adopting any one of these five new greyhounds please contact us!

With the arrival of 14 new greyhounds in the past couple weeks and more on their way, NLGA is in need of foster homes for all of our newest greyhounds!  Please consider helping these wonderful greyhounds while they wait for their forever homes to find them!
