Tails of Coming Home

Today's Dog Blog is brought to us by Mary!  Enjoy!

Well April is Greyhound Adoption Month, so this is a story that started back in May of 2007.

My Mom had just become a permanent t nursing home resident, so Mark and I talked about getting a dog. He stated he wanted a Greyhound. Me, having allergies, needed to make sure that I did not have any issues with greyhounds. So I went down to a meet and greet and spent about an hour playing with the dogs that were there. Rubbed the paws all over my arms to see if I would break out. I cuddle with the dog. That greyhound that I met that day was someone that years later came to spend a lot of time at our house. Miss Febe... !

But back to our story, as most of you who know us we are not the wait around kind of people. But we did wait. We had to check out all the groups and we liked NLGA, so we waited.  After about 2 weeks I started to call and leave messages. Well, the day came and we got to go to the clinic and meet the greyhound we so badly wanted. Our only thing was we need a boy as Mark's Mom's had a female dog and she was the in charge kind of girl. So we did not want any trouble when they came and stayed.

Donna brought in this dog who walked around the room, gave kisses to both of us. And then heard that fun sound coming from out in the waiting room he wanted to go check it out. Donna asked if we wanted to look at more but this guy stole are hearts he was friendly, loving and outgoing. So on April 11th of 2007 A dogs named Noble Trojan but was called Colt come into our lives and it has never been the same.

We had to change his name cause Colt just not seen like him. He was a gentleman, from the day he came in to our house and still is this day. So we changed it to Constantine. Or as some of you know him Con. He was just shy of his 6th birthday when we got him.

He has been an easy greyhound as far as he had not been in a foster home when we picked him so he had a lot of firsts with us. Like riding in a car in a car, never walked up steps, never been in a house. He loves to go to meet and greets, he loved to go and see my Mom in the nursing home he would climb in the bed or if she was up in her chair both loved the outside so my Mom would grab his leash and he would walk down the hall pulling my Mom behind him ever so gently.

He still loves to lie outside in the sun. In the years since he has come into our life’s he has given us great joy and sorrow, he suffered a stroke in June 2010. He spent one night at the Uof M and when we went to pick him up he was so happy to see us. His tail wagging and he jump right into the back of the car. We took him up to Foley to have him checked out and they were surprised at how well he was doing. He came back for that and had Leptospirosis in 2011. And has bounce back. He is our rock and as we celebrated his gottcha day we look forward to celebrating his 12th Birthday in July.
