We're Getting Ready for the NLGA Picnic!

Hello NLGA Dog Blog Readers!

The 17th Annual NLGA Picnic is only a little more than a week away!  8 days to be exact!

2012 NLGA Picnic Group Picture!  ... How many people and hounds can we get into the 2013 picture?!

Lots is still going on behind the scenes to make sure all of the details that go into organizing an event like this are falling into place!  There will be a lot of busy days in the next 8 days!  But it will be worth it on Saturday, September 14th!

The 17th Annual NLGA Picnic will take place at Long Lake Regional Park (1500 Old US Hwy 8) in New Brighton, MN from 11am to 4pm.

Here in Minnesota we are still in full swing of the season called road construction!  For those that do not travel this area of the twin cities often, be aware that 694 is in various stages of major road construction in both directions.  Be aware that travel times may be slow and traffic may be heavy.  We'll give an update of the road construction around Long Lake Regional Park a day or so before the picnic!

The schedule of events for the picnic is as follows:
11am - 4pm:   Shopping, raffle, food, 2014 NLGA calendar voting, NLGA photo booth, and fun!
          11am - 3pm:   Silent Auction
          12pm:   Memorial Balloon Release
12:30pm:   Games!  Musical mats and Bun Races!
          3pm:   Silent Auction Ends
          3:30pm:   Raffle Ends

Since we are still in the planning stages, more items may be added to the schedule!  Keep an eye out for schedule additions as the date gets closer!

The food option this year will feature a brand new food truck!  Dominick's food truck will have items like Philly Cheese Steaks, Gyros, Burgers, French Fries, Onion Rings, Cheese Curds, and more!

Rescued Paws Ironworks will be attending our picnic as a vendor!  They specialize in dog related metal art and will have greyhound items!  Even a special piece made just for us with the NLGA running greyhound logo!  Stop by their booth and buy something fun!

There will also be another NLGA photo area at this years picnic!  Stop by to get your picture taken!  Some of the photos taken at the picnic will be included on the September page of the 2014 NLGA calendar!

So, you ask, what can you still do to help make the NLGA picnic a success?!  Well, there are several things!

The picnic is our major fundraising event of the year.  And the raffle and silent auction are dependent on the donations that we receive!   The effort to assemble raffle and silent auction baskets is starting this weekend ... but you still have time to make your donations!  It can be greyhound related...  Favorite treats.  Favorite toys.  Favorite dog beds.  Or for people...  It can be related to a hobby of yours.  It can be a gift certificate to your favorite restaurant or store.  Or tickets to your favorite theater or sports team.  It could be something you make.  Or just something that you see that really catches your eye.  Honestly, the options are endless and only limited by your creativity!  Please let Donna (guber2nac@aol.com) or Mary (mballenger@msn.com) know of your intent to donate an item to ensure there are bid sheets!

Volunteers are also still needed!  Both for Friday evening before the picnic to help load the truck.  And Saturday at the picnic.  All volunteer shifts will be scheduled keeping in mind that everyone wants to enjoy the picnic too ... just a short shift of volunteering will go a long way!  Contact Sandy (sjammer@msn.com) for details and to volunteer!

And, most importantly, what you can do to help make the NLGA picnic a success is ATTEND!  Bring your greyhound/s, enjoy the day, eat, shop, participate in the raffle, the silent auction, the games, the memorial balloon release, get your pictures taken, vote for the 2014 calendar pictures ... have fun and support NLGA greyhounds!  [and if you cannot attend ... donate to NLGA in support of retired racing greyhounds!]
