New Dogs Are Coming Soon to NLGA

And we need your help!!
Where are we going? Are the people nice? Will they like us?

Have you considered being a foster family for a newly retired greyhound?  Taking a newly retired greyhound into your home helps him/her learn how to be a house pet.  It is so rewarding and easier than you may think.

  • Foley Boulevard Animal Hospital provides the necessary vetting for NLGA hounds so there is no cost to you.
  • NLGA provides the foster with food so there is no cost to you.
  • You may need to bring the greyhound to the clinic for vet appointments or adoption meetings.  NLGA will work with you to find convenient times.
  • Volunteers could help by giving your greyhound a ride if need be.

Fostering is a good way to test the waters before you make a commitment.  Thinking about adopting your first greyhound and just not sure....foster to find out how awesome these dogs really are.  Or perhaps you are considering adding a second hound to your home, foster first to get a taste of what it is like to have two hounds.

Just as your hound(s) stay home while you work, the foster can too.  It is best for them to learn about the "typical" home life and do not need someone around all the time.  It is rewarding to watch the greyhound's personalities develop as they become comfortable in your home.

Perhaps your lifestyle is not such that you can have a greyhound foster full-time.  Or maybe only specific times of the year.  It is helpful to have back up foster homes for a few days or a weekend(s).  And you do not need to take a dog every time we have a new group.

If we have enough foster homes, we can all share the responsibility and joy of transitioning the track greyhound to the retired hounds we all love.

To find out more about fostering or to become a foster family, send an email to nlgahounds@gmail.com or to Donna at gubernac2@aol.com.  You can also call NLGA at 763-754-9754.
