Hello NLGA Dog Blog Readers!
Happy Halloween everyone! A Friday Halloween even! Just a quick Halloween public service announcement to keep in mind for today!
A parade of costumed kids ringing the doorbell and screaming trick-or-treat. Ghosts and goblins wandering the neighborhood. Halloween may rival the 4th of July in terms of stress for some pets. It can be a stressful night!
Be sure to keep your greyhound inside during Halloween. For both your hounds safety and for the safety of others too. Your greyhound may be fine in a crowd normally but a crowd of excited costumed strangers may be just too much for them. It's best to reduce the chance of unpredictable behavior ... from both pets and strangers ... by keeping your greyhound inside.
And, specifically for greyhounds, watch those open doors extra carefully! There may be a lot of roaming in the night for Halloween, but let's make sure it's not an organized roaming search for a lost greyhound! Check you gates. Check your doors. And be extra careful when handing out candy!
Speaking of candy. Besides strange sights, sounds, and open doors, that big bowl of tasty treats can be a Halloween danger to pets. Chocolate and raisins are always bad. But no candy is really good for your pets. Especially when they tend to forget to unwrap it! Eating wrappers and all can be a choking hazard. And, at the very least, Halloween candy may result in an upset stomach. Ick.
And, maybe. Just maybe ... your greyhound will sleep through it all!
