With Thanksgiving celebrations quickly approaching ... is your turkey thawing yet?! ... it is important to use caution to ensure the day is thankfully greyt!
Thanksgiving is a busy day! Whether you are hosting or attending a celebration away from home, keeping some cautions in mind can help ensure your day ends full of thanks.
No matter where you are for the holiday there are probably friends and family members in attendance that do not share their homes with greyhounds. Be it your overly nice Aunt Mabel, well meaning brother-in-law Steve, or your second cousins toddler aged daughter Ava. Be on the watch out for open doors! Someone being helpful in letting your hound outside to relieve themselves may inadvertently kick off an afternoon search party.
In preparing the meal, the kitchen is key. The oven, stove, and counter tops are busy. Cooks are quickly moving about the kitchen with items that are hot, sharp, and heavy. Everything smells oh so good! Besides being precariously underfoot, greyhound noses are just about perfectly counter height. Just think of all those temptation!
All the preparing and stressing and cooking has paid off ... your Thanksgiving meal is perfectly ready! Congratulations! Sit down, enjoy, and be thankful for all that surrounds you. Do you know where your greyhound is? Hopefully blissfully sleeping away from the table and kitchen. If not, keep an eye on anything tasty smelling that didn't make it to the table. Counter tops, sink, garbage can ... doesn't matter, it smells good!
You may be tempted to share part of your meal with your greyt friends. It is important to not let our over-eating extend to the greyhounds in the house. Especially fatty foods (like turkey skin) which can cause upset stomachs or worse.
The activity starts again when clean-up starts. The garbage can can be especially tempting during this time. Along with the dishwasher. And sink. And floor. And containers of left-overs. Aluminum foil and plastic wrap with drippings and tastes galore!
The food-centric holiday meal is complete. Smiles, laughing, full stomachs. Everyone has over-indulged and are close to a turkey induced coma. Oh, right ... it's the tryptophan! Regardless, while everyone is napping or watching football or plotting over the black Friday ads be sure to keep an eye on your greyhounds. This is the perfect time to quietly sneak into the kitchen to investigate the counters, floors, and garbage can in search of the elusive turkey bones and more!
